Booking Guide

How to Book a Men's Esthetic in Japan
as a Foreigner

A practical, step-by-step guide to booking your first Japanese men's esthetic session — by LINE, phone, or walk-in. Includes copy-paste Japanese messages, payment and language tips, and what to expect on arrival. Examples below use Osaka, but the same steps work in Tokyo, Nagoya, and across Japan.

How to Use This Page

Men's esthetic (メンズエス, menzu esute) is a relaxation oil-massage service for men, widely available across Japan. Almost every salon is Japanese-language only, so this page exists to bridge that gap: it shows you exactly how the booking works and gives you the Japanese phrases you need.

Read the page top to bottom — each step builds on the last:

Step 1 — Choose Your Area

  1. 01
Pick the area closest to your hotel or plans

Step 2 — Browse Shops and Therapists

  1. 02
    Read profiles and check ratings

Each salon listing shows therapist diaries, photos, ratings, and an English OK badge for salons with English-speaking or translation-friendly staff.

Sort by review count for the most reliable shops, or use Foreign-Friendly Shops to filter for internationally-experienced salons.

Step 3 — Check the Menu and Prices

  1. 03
    Confirm your course before contacting

Typical courses: 60 min / 90 min / 120 min. Oil massage is the most popular service. Prices generally range from ¥8,000 to ¥20,000 depending on duration.

Decide your preferred duration and any specific requests (pressure strength, focus area) before sending a LINE message — this keeps the conversation efficient.

Three Ways to Book — LINE, Phone, or Walk-in

A
LINE (recommended). Most Japanese salons take reservations through the LINE messaging app. It is text-based, so you can copy-paste the Japanese phrases below and read replies with a translation app — no speaking required. Tap the green LINE button on a shop page, add the salon as a friend, then send your message. This is the easiest method for foreign visitors.
B
Phone. You can also call the salon during opening hours. Staff usually answer in Japanese, so use Google Translate's conversation mode, or ask a Japanese-speaking friend or your hotel front desk to call on your behalf. Phone is useful for same-day bookings when LINE replies are slow.
C
Walk-in. Some salons accept walk-ins if a therapist is free, but availability is not guaranteed and the best therapists are often fully booked. If you walk in, show the shop page on your phone and the Japanese phrase: プランはありますか? (“Do you have any openings now?”). Booking ahead by LINE is still the safest choice.

Step 4 — Contact via LINE (Copy-Paste Messages)

Most salons book exclusively via LINE. Tap the LINE button on the shop page, then copy and paste one of the messages below. Staff will respond in Japanese — use Google Translate camera mode to read the reply.

Step 5 — What to Bring and What to Expect on Arrival

1
Bring cash (yen). Japan is still largely cash-based. Most salons require yen payment. Nearest convenience store ATMs (7-Eleven, Lawson) accept foreign cards 24 hours and are easy to find near any Osaka station.
2
Arrive 5 minutes early. Japanese salons run on precise schedules. Arriving on time is considered basic courtesy. If delayed, send a LINE message immediately.
3
Show your LINE confirmation at reception. The therapist or receptionist will check your reservation. No need to speak Japanese — just show the screen.
4
Take the shower if offered. Many salons offer a shower before the session. Accepting it is polite and expected — it's standard Japanese spa etiquette.
5
Fill out the intake form with Google Translate camera. Point your camera at the Japanese form and the translation overlays in real time. Write responses in English or Roman letters — staff can read them.
6
Leave valuables in the locker. Leave your wallet, phone, and watch in the reception area or locker provided. This is standard Japanese etiquette.

What to bring checklist

  • Cash in yen (¥10,000–¥20,000 depending on course length)
  • Your smartphone with LINE app open and reservation confirmed
  • Google Translate app with Japanese language downloaded offline
  • Comfortable clothes you don't mind changing out of
  • A relaxed mindset — sessions are professional and calm
